"What Lies Beyond, Six Feet Under"

In the Cases at the Glatfelter Library, just beyond the entrance is a gravestone made of glass... A raven perched upon a branch at the top of its arch. A rubbing from an 18th century gravestone was used as a template for me to carve this Glass Gravestone, beaconing the title of the show, "What Lies Beyond Six Feet Under", in old English Script... Behind the Stone, is an antique mirror reflecting your own face from beyond the Grave Marker... suggesting our own mortality, as well as the thinning of the veil of Death during this time.. The Day of the Dead, All Hallows Eve, Halloween, or whatever you feel comfortable calling it.

Beneath this Case is another that houses A wall of Ceramic Tiles Created by Alexander Simms that look like they were dug from an ancient archaeological site with images of the Green Man, Bacchus in Greek Mythology, long associated with the feast of the Harvest .alongside roots, pottery and artifacts meant to suggest the many civilizations that have come before us.

The Room Beyond houses the works of David Meanix, from the HBO series Six Feet Under. These images many find disturbing, as they are of people wearing masks of pieces of their own faces... Are we not all going to pieces? I love how these images suggest quite powerfully how we each present ourselves to the world, hiding behind the mask of our outer selves.
